Grand Opening For Prescott Station at 2121 Wood Street, West Oakland

New affordable housing has officially opened at 2121 Wood Street in West Oakland, Alameda County. The project team and local politicians gathered for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event at Prescott Station, a six-story apartment complex with over two hundred units and commercial retail space overlooking the Oakland Ballers ballpark. Turner Impact Capital was the project developer.


The six-story development was built by Build Group, utilizing prefabricated units manufactured in Vallejo by Harbinger, formerly known as Factory_OS. The structure contains nearly 200,000 square feet, including 235 apartments and 18,300 square feet of ground-level commercial retail space. Unit types will vary, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, for households earning up to 80% of the Area’s Median Income. Surface parking is included for 239 cars, with additional space for 280 bicycles.

The original design was by David Baker Architects, and completed by MBH Architects in collaboration with Harbinger Homes and Holliday Development. The podium-style complex features a linear I-shaped floor plan, with a central notch carved out for an open-air courtyard outside the residential lobby. Residential amenities will include a fitness center, co-working area, lounge, and the rooftop deck where attendees gathered earlier this week.


The event was attended by representatives from Turner Impact Capital, Citi Bank, Mayor Barbara Lee, Oakland City Councilmember Carroll Fife, and Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas. Speaking at the event, Mayor Lee said, “Prescott Station is a transformative solution that honors West Oakland’s cultural heritage while addressing the critical need for affordable housing in our city… Affordable housing is a basic human right, and projects like this give families the stability they need to remain in the neighborhoods they’ve built and sustained for decades.”

Construction was achieved through private financing through Turner Impact and Citibank. For residents, affordable rent levels are achieved from a property tax abatement agreement with the California Municipal Finance Authority and a regulatory agreement with the Oakland Department of Housing and Community Development.


Oakland City Councilmember Carroll Fife, who represents the district where the new project is located. “We are investing in West Oakland, and I applaud the work of everyone involved with delivering these 235 apartments to the Prescott neighborhood – homes that will change lives for the better.” Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas added that, “Prescott Station is a powerful example of what’s possible when public and private partners come together with a shared commitment to strengthening the community.”


The roughly 2.5-acre property is located along Wood Street between 20th Street and the West Grand Avenue overpass. Future residents are living across from the Raimondi Park, including the Oakland Ballers ballpark, and near the recently opened Prescott Market food hall.
