Fontainebleau Las Vegas opened in December 2023 as the newest luxury resort on the Strip. When Cartier selected it as the home for a new boutique, MBH Architects served as the Architect of Record, translating an internationally conceived design into a permitted, code-compliant, fully realized space within one of the most complex hospitality environments in the world.

A Sanctuary Off the Casino Floor
The design brief was direct: offer relief from the Strip. Las Vegas visitors walk through some of the most sensory-intense interiors in the world. The Cartier boutique at Fontainebleau was conceived as a counterpoint, light, calm, and warm, without sacrificing the authority appropriate to one of the world’s most storied luxury maisons.
Positioned off the main casino floor, the boutique needed to hold its own visually while reading as a sanctuary the moment a customer stepped inside. The design achieves this through a consistent material language of warm honed marble, custom plaster, and Cartier Champagne Metal that runs from the façade through every zone of the front of house.

Inspired by the Desert Landscape
The boutique is organized around five themes drawn from the surrounding landscape and Cartier’s design heritage: Nature, Topography, Movement, Singularity, and Cartier itself. These themes are expressed materially rather than graphically. The façade is clad in three honed marbles, layered in warm golden tones that reference the striated rock formations of the region. Inside, undulating ceiling forms, organic column profiles, and flowing wall lines create an environmental narrative that guides customers through the space.
Vibrant focus panels anchor each product zone: a Mascarello straw marquetry panel depicting a desert landscape with cactus, agave, and a reclining Cartier panther in the Women's Universe; Karin Sajo Corolles Blanc de Nacre botanical fabric paneling in the Bridal area; and Lison de Caunes N4 Sun Marquetry for the walls of the VIP library salons. Each panel introduces color and narrative energy into an otherwise warm, tonal palette.

A Flowing Customer Journey
The 2,382-square-foot front of house is organized as a sequence of distinctive product universes. Customers enter through the Jewelry zone, where circular display casements in Cartier Champagne Metal and herringbone oak flooring establish the retail rhythm. Movement flows naturally through Watches and Men’s Accessories, then into Bridal, then the Women’s universe. Each zone is distinguished by its own focus panel, flooring material, and ceiling form. Four private VIP Salons at the rear, finished in gradient Space N Wall wallcovering and Calacatta Oro marble shelving, complete the journey from public discovery to intimate, personalized service.
Decorative lighting punctuates the experience throughout. The Catellani Smith Gold Moon Chandelier crowns the Women’s Universe. Brillance sunburst sconces mark the VIP entry. Paolo Castelli Anodine Wall sconces and Mydriaz Silex fixtures complete the private salon environment.
Technical Complexity and Construction Challenges
The project presented a significant construction challenge. The Fontainebleau began construction in 2007 and was put on hold due to financial issues until construction restarted in late 2021. Numerous unknown or undocumented building services including pipes, wires, and conduits surfaced during construction, forcing design changes throughout the project. The architecture team coordinated directly with the general contractor and MEP engineer to resolve conflicts in real time, adjusting details as conditions required without compromising design intent or the May 2025 opening date.
The project achieved LEED Platinum certification; a meaningful accomplishment for a luxury retail fit-out within a casino environment.
