Helen Herrick, Principal and Managing Director of MBH Architects’ New York office, was honored as one of the five new legionaries inducted into the esteemed Retail Design Legion of Honor during the Retail Design Institute’s 55th International Design Awards program. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 21, at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Herrick joins MBH founder John McNulty, inducted in 2023, as the second MBH leader to receive the honor.
In accepting the Legion of Honor Medal, Herrick reflected on what endures long after a store opens. “As you are in these projects and a retail store is about to open, you are obsessing because the stain wasn’t perfect on the flooring, or perhaps your newly finished store is flooding from an upstairs neighbor,” she said. “All of these things are so important at the time, but when you get right down to it, it’s all about the people.” She closed by thanking her New York team, many of whom were in attendance: “It is such a joy to work with such a dedicated, creative, and curious team. They make showing up to work every day a pure pleasure.”
