MBH Architects Receives Two Gold Nugget Awards in Ceremony at Moscone Center
The
architectural firm of MBH Architects, located in Alameda, received two
awards at the Gold Nugget ceremony held July 26, 2001, at the Moscone
Center in San Francisco. The awards were given to the following projects:
San Francisco Fire Credit Union - San Francisco,
California
The San Francisco Fire Credit Union, located at the curved intersection
of California Street and Presidio Avenue, garnered an Award of Merit
in the 2001 Gold Nugget Awards for Best Office/Professional Building
under 50,000 square feet. The International Style building utilizes
high quality materials and construction methods to create a life long
structure for an important financial institution.
San Francisco Wax Museum - San Francisco,
California
The San Francisco Wax Museum received an Award of Merit in the 2001
Gold Nugget Award for Best Commercial Project/Retail. The design of
the Wax Museum is inspired by British and French Victorian public architecture
and the arched pier buildings of the surrounding wharf area. Materials
such as Jerusalem limestone were selected for its appearance and association
with historic buildings, and intricate details of cast bronze guard
rails and fins on twin zinc domes were instrumental in bringing nautical
imagery into the architecture.
MBH Architects was established in 1989 and now employs 160 professionals specializing in commercial, retail, restaurant, hospitality, and multi-unit housing. In addition to Alameda, MBH has an office in Newport Beach, California.
